Caring for your jewellery
With a little TLC, your Pearl Shed jewellery will bring you a lifetime of pleasure. Pearls after all are beautifully simple to take care of and don’t require any special maintenance. However, to keep your jewellery in perfect condition, we recommend the following simple rules.
1. Go soft on storage
The silky soft texture of pearls and other precious gems means that they are easily scratched by hard or sharp surfaces. So it’s important to store them in the Pearl Shed ‘pouch’ your jewellery arrived in. If you’re talking your jewellery on holiday, remember to take the hard velvet box we sent you too. Too much pressure can actual crack your precious stones!
2. Take care to wear them
Pearls love to be worn and if they’re not worn in a while, they can actually lose their brilliant lustre. By wearing them you’ll not only look and feel wonderful, but your pearls will also actually absorb some of the oils from your skin and keep their sheen.
It’s also worth remembering that your pearls will absorb the chemicals around you like perfume and hairspray. Over time, this can eat away at the finish. So if you’re getting ready for an evening out, it’s a good idea to wait until the last minute before wearing your jewellery.
3. Clean gently
Pearl Shed jewellery doesn’t really need a complicated cleaning routine. A simple wipe down with a damp cloth after wearing, to remove any make-up or perfume, will work wonders. If you want to give your pearls a more thorough clean, try and avoid household cleaners. These can be abrasive and scratch the fine surface of your jewellery. Instead, soak your pearls in a little water with a few drops of washing up liquid. This will be mild enough to clean away the dirt, without causing damage.
